Pan Idræt’s ambition is to create a welcoming and inclusive space which encourages people to exercise and be healthy and to create a community fellowship and thus build quality of life both for members and for people of sexual and gender minorities in Copenhagen in general. In Denmark, the challenges for those groups in society whose sexuality does not coincide with the majority are still significant. Studies of living conditions suggest that sexual and gender minorities are over-represented in terms of loneliness, depression, alcohol abuse and smoking.
Today, someone’s first contact to the gay or lesbian community often occurs through bars and nightlife. This is where young people first make contact with our community. Newcomers seeking the city’s openness also head for the bars, which for many represent the safe environment where they can meet with like-minded people.
Pan Idræt aims to create an alternative to bars and nightlife, and our long-term goal is to that by 2025, we will have taken over the top spot and be the primary place for fellowship and networking.
Pan Idræt should be a place you go to meet with others, network and make friends. It should be where you build new relationships after coming out and where you find like-minded people without the automatic assumption that it involves alcohol and smoking. Instead, the focus in on sports and fellowship.
By 2025, Pan Idræt will have changed the paradigm of being from a sexual or gender minority in Denmark. In 2025, people will have a much more solid network, feel more included and being from a sexual or gender minority will no longer mean poorer health.
